Every country has some bizarre and crazy laws, but the US stands out in this aspect because it has the crazy, the weird and the downright unusual. In this article, we look at some of the most unusual laws in one of the most developed countries in the world.
1. In New Jersey, it is illegal to murder someone while wearing a bullet proof vest. So what they’re trying to say it is illegal to kill someone but we have a law against people who kill other people while wearing. Because, why not?
2. Glue sniffing is a huge problem in Indiana that there is a law against sniffing glue in the state for the purpose of getting high. This is stated to be a class B misdemeanour.
3. Imagine if you are jailed for serving margarine to someone without their permission. Well, that is what the state of Wisconsin says, if you’re first time offender you will be charged with a fine of $300 and three months in jail while repeat offenders face up to $1000 in fine and a year behind bars. We are as bewildered as you in regard to this unusual law in such a developed state.
4. If you want to challenge someone to the bitter end, you should go to Tennessee where duelling isn’t technically outlawed. Although killing someone at the end of it will be a guaranteed trip to the prison. But duelling as such is still permitted in the state as long as none of the parties have any intention of running for office.
5. Imagine you want to surprise your kid who just moved to Louisiana for work; so you decide to send them pizza. Well make sure to keep the bail money ready because as per the laws of the state pizza cannot be sent as surprise to someone unless that someone authorises it. Imagine going to prison and someone asks you why you’re in prison and your response “oh well I sent my son some pizza”. That is how ridiculously unusual this law is.
6. Florida has a lot of attractions and is also home to a large number of porcupines. To save the species and protect it, the Florida state legislature introduced a law that states that it is illegal to have sex with a porcupine. We are as confused as you on why such a law even exists. Just for a second imagine the legal proceedings, the lobbying and the amount of tax payer money that has probably gone into the introduction of such a law.
